Prior to coming to Manila for the AsiaPop Comicon event, English actor Joe Dempsie had been teasing about the possible return of his intriguing “Game of Thrones” character, Gendry.

In the popular HBO fantasy series, Gendry is revealed to be one of the many bastard children of Robert Baratheon, the late king of the now disputed Seven Kingdoms. But after crossing paths with Arya Stark and becoming the blacksmith of The Brotherhood Without Banners in Season 3, Gendry has not been seen or heard of since.

In an interview with Digital Spy earlier this month, Dempsie said he agrees with many fans who are still in the dark as to whatever happened to Gendry.

“It’s a bit of a loose end, and they don’t make a habit of leaving them untied – and actually as the series has progressed, the more forgotten characters that have returned, the more Gendry sticks out like a sore thumb… There’s a lot of unanswered questions and the longer it goes on, the more obvious his absence becomes,” he was quoted as saying in the interview.

And yes, Dempsie, who is also known for his breakout role in the British teen drama “Skins,” is very vocal about his wish to return to the series where he has not appeared since 2013. He reiterated that desire during his media session at AsiaPop Comicon with InterAksyon and other media.

“I don’t know when (Gendry) he’s going to return, I don’t know. But I would love to,” he declared.

Dempsie doesn’t just want to return as Gendry in “Game of Thrones,” he actually has some ideas for his character and that includes saving the character of Jon Snow, played by his good friend Kit Harrington.

“Our paths have never crossed before in the series. So yes, saving Jon Snow and his beautiful hair from imminent death is a nice way to come back,” he shared.

Aside from Harrington, Dempsie also admitted to being close friends with other “Game of Thrones” cast members like Richard Madden (Robb Stark), Oona Chaplin (Talisa Maegyr), Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) whom he says he all miss.

“The nicest thing about being a part of the show for me is that there are a lot of actors who have the same or similar age as me. We all formed a close bond, but a lot of characters died in ‘Game of Thrones’ so it was hard for us to meet up,” he pointed out.

As the conversation shifted to the show’s death toll, Dempsie was asked which character would he kill off next if he was “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin.

“Littlefinger,” he said without batting an eyelash. Because his intentions were never sincere.”

As for Gendry, he has his own idea how his character would perish should it return to the series.

“Gendry could die in a sword fight or get killed by a dragon. As long as it’s not a ‘funny’ death, I’m fine with it,” he quipped.

AsiaPop Comicon Manila 2016 is happening at the SMX Convention Center until this Sunday, August 28.
